Frances Hampton

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor (Person Centred/ Psychodynamic) which means I use different therapeutic approaches to work with you as an individual. I offer a warm, empathic and containing space for you to explore areas of your life which are not working for you, creating a capacity for self-knowledge and change. I believe that the safe, therapeutic relationship between you and me will be vital in the work we do together, enabling you to find your inner strength and recognise conscious and unconscious patterns of behaviour and relating. I believe that relationships have different elements to them and that relationships in the past can influence our ability to make and maintain relationships in the present. I will work with you to help you to articulate what is ‘stuck’; to wonder what may need healing in order to move forward and make choices for change. Together we can explore links between past experiences and present behaviours and find ways to move forward.

My own experience is that, by connecting with the different parts of ourselves, it is possible to develop resilience to and acceptance of random life events which cannot be altered. Issues I have worked with include abuse, anxiety, bereavement, chronic health conditions, depression, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and substance misuse. I will be with you as you work towards hope, growth and self-healing.

Prior to training I worked in the voluntary sector for charities supporting mental health service users, single parents and people with sensory disabilities. Part of my training included working as a counsellor within an NHS drug and alcohol addictions service with people wanting to change their relationship with and use of substances. I bring this experience of working with a wide range of people and needs to my work now. I have a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from The Mary Ward Centre, London. I am an accredited member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their ethical framework.

I offer an initial, free 15-minute phone call to discuss what you are looking for and whether I can help you. My fee is £60 for a 50-minute session remotely via Zoom/telephone or £65 if you would like to meet in person at Spiral.
